STG presents Showtunes Theatre: Reel To Reel at the Moore Theatre on Saturday January 28 and Sunday, January 29, 2012.
Showtunes Theatre’s 2012 concertized season opens with a unique and informative look at the Broadway musicals of the last 50 years.
You’ll hear cartoons like candles and teapots burst into songs from BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, as well as glorious Bernstein melodies and Sondheim lyrics, reborn as they were altered to accommodate close-ups and rewrites in the movie version of WEST SIDE STORY.
ACT 1 discovers how and way these Broadway musicals transferred to the Silver Screen and what adaptations occurred.
ACT II reverses the process and delivers an mélange of songs from musicals that started out as films, and were subsequently turned into hit Broadway shows.
Martin Charnin (whose legendary musical ANNIE has lived in both worlds) will narrate the evening, featuring a bevy of Seattle singing stars and a treasury of tales, known and unknown.
Based in Seattle, WA, SHOWTUNES is in its 12th year of producing concert versions of rarely seen or neglected musicals from the Broadway musical canon, and performs at The Moore Theatre in downtown Seattle. Recent Moore season concerts include FOLLIES, THE MELODY LINGERS ON (The Life and Songs of Irving Berlin), and GEORGE M! SHOWTUNES is producing in association with Seattle Theatre Group (STG) and Broadway Across America (BAA). Martin Charnin is the Artistic Director, and Maggie Stenson Pehrson is Executive Producer.
